Mayank gets 5 certifications in 6 weeks!

January 28, 2015

David’s note: Your salary is probably going to double.

Hey David,

After almost a month and a half of grilling preparation and spending almost 3-4 hours per day, here I am, Salesforce certified with ADM 201, DEV 401, Advanced Admin, Sales Cloud consultant and Service Cloud consultant exams.

I had been working on Salesforce related mini point-and-click projects for almost an year and always wanted to get into Apex development. I attended your session at Dreamforce in 2014 (and attended another one with Iman Maghroori) and was so motivated and inspired that I decided that I will go through your site as soon as come back from Dreamforce and prepare a line of action. Trust me, I never expected to pass all five of these exams in the first attempt. After going through your certification preparation page and using my own resources, I was able to crack all of them within a month and a half and I can’t express how fantastic it feels =)

I am a QA Lead in my firm and I work 8 hrs on QA related tasks and then spend 2 hrs everyday on Salesforce, after I get back from work. After attending your sessions and knowing that there are such spectacular resources as yours that I can and trust use to hone my skill set, I am confident that I will be a full fledged Apex developer one fine day in the near future. I swear I would have been so clueless if it hadn’t been for your site and videos related to Salesforce. As much as I love my job, I love working on Salesforce even more and have decided that I will pursue it full time in the future.

Please continue doing the good work so that lesser mortals like me can learn a thing or two and achieve our goals/dreams ;)

Regards,
Mayank Srivastava

Hi Mayank,

Is there any prerequisite for taking DEV 401, like we have to go for ADM 201 first then go for the DEV 401. I am from the QA background and wants to pursue my career in Salesforce.

First of all, get yourself registered on CertifiedOnDemand.com. That alone will do 75% of the job for you in terms of passing the ADM 201 certification exam. Complete the relevant trails on Trailhead, excluding the Lightning/Apex/VF part. Then register for the exam date. Make sure the duration gives you enough time to prepare well for this exam.
Spend a week or two going through the full COD site material material. Make notes and go over those multiple times , starting a week before the exam.

Hi All,

I have some experience on CRM concepts and was passionate about Salesforce. I passed the ADM 201 yesterday. Now I would like to go for Sales Cloud certification but very confused with the resources and suggestions available on the internet. is there an Implementation guide which only concentrates on sales and Marketing management? I referred to the ‘SGCertifiedSalesCloudConsultant’ guide but need materials around ‘Implementation Strategies’, ‘Sales Cloud Solution Design’, ‘Account, Contact & Opportunity Management’. Please point me to some case stuidies if any which I can practice on the developer portal as well.

Thanks in advance,

If you have access to an Unlimited org, the Help & Training section has videos with everything you need to pass the any of the tests. Otherwise you MUST review each of the exam topics (or at least the ones with the highest question %s) as listed by SFDC.

You have been a great inspiration.

I accidentally got to this page a month ago and was so motivated with your achievement that I too set myself a target of 1.5 months to get these 5 certifications.

Today i am happy to tell you that i have managed to achieve that target and have passed ADM 201, DEV 401, Advanced Admin, Sales Cloud consultant and Service Cloud consultant exams.

Next target is DEV501 in a months time :)

Thanks again,

      Hi again Mayank.

Just to highlight your achievement, I wanted to share that I did the adm 211 today, successfully. Had to fly to Colombia to take it, as i was not approved for online proctoring, and my country has no web-assessor authorized testing centers.

Did not study everyday for it , started studying right after my last post.
Did 4 hours per day, at most.
Studied the whole 5 days of the sfdc Adm311 courseware book and labguide from winter 2011, which a friend lent to me
Had fortunate access to the unlimited license training videos, did the adv admin one… 270 mins?
Read SFDC articles on most of the official study guide topics
Watched youtube videos from Dreamforce 2013 and 2014 ‘admin sessions’
      Read through 2 adm301 dumps, and 2 adm 211 from cram.com

      My feelings:
Felt prepared, took the plunge $200 for the test, $700 so far for flite and expenses
The test had A LOT of collaborative forecasting questions, + many workflow vs triggers & apex. NO CODE.
Nothing about s-controls Just 2-3 questions with formulas about ISPICKVAL and a couple had visual force use case options
There were also A LOT of very complex report and dasboard questions – usecases with nitpicked features
Many of the questions were TRIPLE CHOICE :-O !!!
I did not get a SINGLE question from the flashcards!!!
Answered most of the multiple choice question by common sense. I honestly had no idea what to pick for the 2nd and 3rd boxes

The old 2011 book was the most helpful. Seconded by unlimited version help prep videos
The flashcards and dumps were ABSOLUTELY UNHELPFUL. Though I troubled myself factchecking them, which was some help.

Future testers, take what you will from my experience. Just dont pay any attention to s-control questions. i plan to follow Mayank and try DEV401 tomorrow. There will be a major party in Colombia if I pass that one on my first try.

        Second off, CONGRATS ON PASSING!!!

Finally, to benefit future readers, thank you for your feedback on the flash cards! Would you say there were helpful in identifying areas of weakness and additionally study? As in were the topics in the flashcards relevant?

I definitely don’t want to say that questions on the flashcards are exact test questions (or even similar with different values), but at the very least they should help point people in the right direction.

Let me know and good luck on 401!

Thanks for your kind words and all your effort putting this content together David. Its been astonishingly useful.

As promised, my take on DEV401, which I just passed.
          -=IT WAS CAKE=-

Kryterion would not let me schedule it for the next day. So I couldn’t do it the day after I did ADM-211. Did it 2 days after. Studied just one night for it.

As an experiment, I just printed out the study guide’s topic list, and searched SFDC Help for each one; IE: “Considerations for Relationships” and such. There’s a bunch of “Considerations for [topic here]” articles, and many of the questions are from what you will find there.

I absolutely did not look at any flashcards. Just looked into the topics where the bulk of the points were, and ignored those 5 and 8 percenters.

I found these online quizzes, which were pretty cool. Tried them while riding a cab to the testing center in Bogota. I loaded them into my tablet’s browser cache, and worked them offline.

          http://www.chicagosfdc.com/salesforce-com-developer-certification-practice-exams/dev-401-developer-quiz-3/
          and so on.

              Hi Rudra;

I don’t think you can bulk post the flash cards here. If you were a pretty girl, I could’ve been persuaded to copy and paste them here individually …. Not. (just kidding). The most that I can do for you is link to my set.

The good thing is that you can just browse over to them using this link: http://www.cram.com/flashcards/sfdc-dev401-spring-2015-5631997

All you needed to do was add the “http://www.” to my previous post. Bear in mind that’s just 20 Flash cards. You will get a couple of those in your test, but not all. If you do a good search in that site, you will find lots of bigger flash card sets. I would NOT look at any set from before summer 2014.

              Good luck

          Hi Dishi;

David’s recommendations here are awesome, though more for Developers. If you haven’t already:
1-Sign up for a free 30 day SFDC org, or better yet, a Developer Org
2-Go to help & training in your org, look for the available training videos. There’s a bunch!
          https://help.salesforce.com/htsctrainingcatalog#sort=relevancy&f:@sflanguage=%5Ben_US%5D
3- Customize your training needs on the Right Side Bar:
          Course Type = Online
          Select Job Role= Beginning Administrator
Product= Start with Sales Cloud & Marketing Cloud. Do the Service Cloud later.
4- Watch every video you can, and take notes!
5- Google Up “Salesforce Trailhead” ! Its Fun!
6-Check the Current Adm201 test content PDF. Verify that you’ve seen videos or read about each topic, particularly the ones with high coverage % !
          7- Read other peoples’ advise
          http://www.shellblack.com/training-and-certification/get-certified-eight-free-salesforce-training-resources/
          8- Schedule the test
          9- Pass the test

These certs are SFDC specific. If you are doing an MS in Computer Science or Engineering, I’d go with an agnostic cert first, such as one from CompTIA Cloud essentials, (to warm up !) A Cisco networking certification such as CCNA is money on your pocket .
I don’t recommend SFDC or Microsoft certs these days. I’m invested well into both of those and they don’t get a 2nd glance from recruiters
    Good Luck

    Amogh,
I only have experience with Salesforce certifications. If you want to pursue a career in Salesforce, I would highly recommend going for the certifications but please bear in mind that these are very Salesforce CRM specific and they have nothing to do with cloud computing. If you want to go for a generic cloud computing related certification, you might have to look elsewhere.

Devi; I started using the free online flash cards back last December. I didn’t like many of the answers within them. I probably put 20 total hours viewing them. ( I gotta say that I’ve been an SFDC admin of a monster 12-country org, for the last 5 years) . As such I caught the post Dreamforce ad for the SFDC certification events, and flew to Austin TX to take a 8 hour review for $850.

The trainer was HORRIFIED when I told her I was using the flash cards. She taught an awesome class. When we took the practice test, I passed with 1 wrong answer, while all the other students failed.

Come test time, my confidence got ROCKED right off the bat. The test was waaaay harder than I thought. The main problem was not the questions, but the “Select 3 of 5 correct anwers” on most of what I got, while the answers were VERY similar… and sneaky. Many of the questions nitpicked ridiculous or outdated stuff, such as SFDC Mobile licensing.

Yet, I passed. All the students did. Absent score, as you already must know. But I was infuriated with ADM201. Though I learned a lot at the class, I felt the flash cards prepared me better. So my advice to you is, Do the Flash cards, BUT CHECK each and every answer against google. Always trust SFDC content above anything else. And do practice config within a free dev org.

        Good Luck
