It was a ton of fun and I hope you got some valuable advice!

I LOVED seeing a lot of familiar names on the guest list!

Some key advice to remember:

  • Salesforce developers make an average base salary of $133,000 per year. The outlook for this industry shows no signs of slowing down in its crazy growth!
  • Anyone can code, no matter what their background. Some of the best developers (people much better than I) in the industry started off as admins.
  • Stay hungry, stay curious! Never, ever stop learning. Even when you’ve reached Mike Fullmore levels. The sky is your limit if you have a curious mind.
  • You can’t be a good developer without being a good admin. Ask yourself before coding, “can I do this using point-and-click?” You almost always can do a portion this way!
  • Check out Trailhead, the OFFICIAL admin/dev training tool from Salesforce!

You gotta listen to the whole thing as we cover a lot more topics, in depth, and with real life examples! I’ll have the recording up on this site as soon as it’s available!

It has been an exhausting week for me, time to go snowboarding =)

David

Thanks for doing it, it’s super helpful to hear people in the industry talk about how they got there.
I was wondering if perhaps you could share some timelines of people you may have met who went from zero to developer. How long do people seem to work as admins or volunteer for companies before accumulating enough experience to be hired as junior level developer?

David, thanks for your work and passion on this subject. I currently have a full time job as a project manager leading large scale software development tools deployments. I really like the Salesforce development and deployment model and can see how it supports rapid development and deployment. While you may not make any money off of this site, maybe a lot of us who use it will!

Thanks again.
