Have you considered a coding bootcamp?

February 7, 2015

If you’re driven to become a generalist programmer, a coding bootcamp is probably your best bet!

Coding bootcamps are basically 3 months of 40 hours a week courses that teach you how to code from absolute zero. At one coding bootcamp in San Francisco, 98% of graduates are offered a job upon graduation and the average offer is $98,000 – sweet!

I bring this up because if I wasn’t dedicated to the Salesforce platform I would’ve joined a boot camp without question. I also recently learned that one of my eng coworkers at Google got the job after completing the bootcamp I referred to earlier. She blogs about her journey and it is fascinating!

This almost makes me think I should start a Salesforce bootcamp… =)

Try http://www.coderversity.com – they offer a Salesforce coding bootcamp for 24 weeks on a part-time basis. I believe they first teach basic Java, and then transition into Apex/Visualforce which is Salesforce’s own programming language. I’m interested in taking this course myself but they told me their next class starts in a few months.

David,

Your site has transformed my life. I came out of Dev Operations and moved into a entry-level Salesforce admin position then on to an architect role, and am actively applying for a developer role now. All thanks to the inspiration and ease of learning of your site. Once I’ve landed that Dev role I’ll send the full story, it’s been quite a ride, and you’ve been my behind-the-scenes mentor and guide throughout it all.

I’m intrigued by the bootcamp idea. I had entertained joining one of the Ruby bootcamps before deciding to buckle down in Salesforce.

If you were to offer a service similar to Bloc ($5k for virtual instruction and 1on1 curriculum and mentorship in either 12, 18, or 36 week increments I would apply today.)

Consider this your first applicant for SFDC99 bootcamp. I am confident, if you build it, I and the other thousands you have inspired will come.

So honored to be able to help you Chad!!

And I got a bonus Field of Dreams quote too, ha ha ha.

Can’t wait to hear how this story ends, and the next journey begins =)

Hall of fame comment – thanks for making my week Chad!

I think you should start a bootcamp also. That would be great. Maybe a virtual one.
