Mailbag: Salesforce vs. its competitors

March 7, 2015

Dear David,

I would like to know your views on Salesforce vs. its competitors like Oracle, Microsoft or SAP. There is a tough competition going on between these companies and where does Salesforce stand?

Sincerely,
Skeptical

—————

Dear Skeptical,

Salesforce is by far the top dog right now in the cloud CRM space – don’t worry!

To put things in perspective:

  • It’s very difficult for me to think of a company that doesn’t use Salesforce
  • I don’t know of many modern companies that use any of the competitors listed for CRM
  • After 5 years in this industry, I still don’t know who’s in second place
  • Salesforce stock just reached an all-time high after their recent earning reports

My honest opinion is that the most worthy Salesforce competitor hasn’t emerged yet (and it’ll be at least five years until Salesforce is even challenged). Even hypothetically if another company comes and builds a better CRM, so many companies by then will be on the Salesforce platform that the ecosystem will be around for a long, long time.

So consider yourself lucky that you found the winner of this generation, and that you have all the tools you need to master it!

Hope this helps!
David

I agree with David, Salesforce is top dog! I’ve recently been exposed to oracle fusion sales cloud .. A co is coverting from SFDC to Oracle (I know hard to imagine right!?!?!) they will be losing a lot of features and functionality .. Definitely not impressed with it at all!
