David’s note: It’s not mentioned in the story but Tarek only started watching the Apex Academy in October 2016! Incredible how far you’ve come in just three months, wow! You stuck with it and had your “AHA” moment – I wish everyone learning to code experiences that one day too!
Hi David,
This email is long overdue!
I’m writing to THANK YOU for these courses. I completed the Absolute Beginner’s Guide to Learning Apex and Fundamental Coding Techniques in about 25 days (I am currently halfway through The Power of SOQL — I recently started my MBA which I do at night so it’s taking me longer to complete your third course!).
I took my time and made sure to work on it at least 15 minutes per day. I re-watched modules multiple times before moving on to following ones to ensure I had a thorough understanding of each concept. I did all practice assignments and homework problems.
It was challenging and at times a little frustrating, but once I broke through and it “clicked”, the feeling was immensely rewarding! Your encouragement along the way kept me going — I appreciated your thoughtful and articulate way of explaining things.
I’m stoked to share that since completing the courses, I have already made a substantial impact on my company’s SF org. I currently work as a Salesforce admin and have a thorough grasp on declarative configuration. However, we’ve had a number of requirements that I haven’t been able to deliver since they require code. Now that’s no longer an issue! While the few triggers I’ve written haven’t been very complex, they’ve served their purpose where workflow could not and saved myself as well as my users many hours. That’s real impact!
Thanks!
Tarek Zaheer
P.S. Within days of immersing myself in your courses, I actually had multiple dreams about writing code. When I woke up I had to decode my dreams… literally!
