If you’ve watched the Apex Academy, you know Pluralsight and I worked hard to put it together!
And if you’ve been lucky enough to win a free t-shirt from me, you know that Pluralsight sponsored them. Needless to say, I LOVE this company in every way imaginable =)
If you don’t know about Pluralsight, they’re an online teaching company that works with top industry experts to build technical courses in topics such as Salesforce, Javascript, Python, mobile development, and more.
And now they’re holding their first ever conference, Pluralsight Live, next month!
I’m honored to attend this conference both as a speaker and a learner. I hope to see you there too!
Pluralsight Live isn’t going to be like the Salesforce conferences you’re used to. This conference doesn’t focus on one technology – it focuses on learning technology in general.
What I plan to learn at Pluralsight Live:
- Emerging tech trends (like AI), and how they might impact my career
- Career secrets from technologists such as the CIO of Facebook and the CEO of Stack Overflow
- How to plan my long term technology career!
Some of the sessions I’ll be at:
From Han Solo to Jean-Luc Picard: A Nerd’s Guide to Technical Leadership & Career Growth
Ben Day, Pluralsight Author
In this session, we’re going to talk about technical leadership and career growth using two fictional characters from sci-fi: Han Solo, the heroic leader of a very small team and Jean-Luc Picard, the understated & thoughtful (but perhaps more boring) leader of a large organization. Along the way, we’ll talk about the strengths and weaknesses of each, the idea of leader vs. manager, and the role of fear, motivation, and delegation inside of tech organizations.
A Field Guide for Male Allies
Karen Catlin, Karen Catlin Consulting
Are you wondering how you can help improve diversity in tech? In this session, I’ll describe the Male Allies Project and my work to share everyday actions for guys working in tech. Steps anyone can take to create a more inclusive workplace. Come discover how you can make a difference.
Beating the Competition Using Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
Jerry Kurata, InStep Technologies
We all know about headline grabbing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) applications like self-driving cars, robots, and drones. But even if you are not building these devices, AI and ML technologies can be applied to many of the businesses processes you work with every day.
Wired to Learn: Tactics for Being a Better Learner
Jim Christopher, Pluralsight
Learning is an active process. It’s something in which you take part, not something that “just happens” to you. As with anything that requires limited resources, there are ways you can get a bigger return from your investment. This session will convey specific tactics that individuals can employ to get the more effective at learning and retaining information — techniques gleaned from disciplines like psychology, cognitive science, machine learning, physics, forensics, and even metallurgy.
If you’re going, check out my session too!

From Average Joe to Salesforce Pro: How to Advance Your Coding Career with Salesforce
David Liu, Google
In this session, David Liu — an Average Joe who taught himself how to code in Salesforce and eventually got a developer job at Google — highlights the growing opportunities within the Salesforce developer community and shares his tips on how he leveraged his Salesforce coding skills to skyrocket his career.

Also hoping to spend some quality time with the wife and baby in Salt Lake City. This will be my third time going to Utah – I adore it there! Honestly, can’t believe the cost of living is so low. Great people and tons of things to do, especially outdoors. I plan to had over to the Comic Con that week too!
If you’re registering for Pluralsight Live, hope to see you in Utah!
