Do you think you will be doing this again. I should have subscribed to your blog – I am not really a developer and had no plans to be but work needs keep pushing me to learn/do a little here and there so I had not subscribed before today.
At first it was just knowing enough to work with my contract developer – you know relating requirements, dealing with Apex errors on deployment etc. Today I have found an issue I have can be easily solved by writing an apex class to update a field on a managed package (I can create a custom field but I cannot update it, except with an object modkey which I have used before in test just in executed anonymous window but now I want to update this field every time another action happens. )

So this morning I came on your site hoping to watch the basic courses of how to write an apex class I can call from my process builder. And saw that I missed this opportunity!!

    Thanks Ruth!

You can still access the course! Maybe you can expense it to the company.

No idea when the next promo is as Pluralsight determines that! In the past three or so years I’ve seen this promo less than 5 times total.

    Hope that helps!!

Hello David,

Started this adventure today. Question: What to use instead of Mavensmate since it is no longer supported and reached end of life?

One thing to note, Mavensmate is no longer available. We’re being referred to a Salesforce plug in called Salesforce Extensions for Visual Studio Code. There are quite a few prereqs though.

Is it possible to complete the course using the Developer Console?

    Hello World `:) ~

Just an FYI regarding the beginner course. As you may have discovered, Mavensmate is no longer available. The good news is that you don’t need Mavensmate or Developer Console to complete the course. You can do almost everything using Salesforce Setup. The only exception is that you will need Developer Console (Test tab) to view your code coverage test log.

I’m using Lighting, so in order to create a trigger, I had to locate the Lead and Opportunity objects (Object Manager search) and clicked on Trigger and Selected New.

For test classes, I searched for Apex, then clicked Apex Classes and New. Save and Run (if no errors)

To view your results, go to Apex Test Execution and click on the “View Test History” link ~ but it won’t have the code coverage percent.. only pass/fail. You will need Dev Console (Test tab) to view the code coverage.. OR.. if you are using your own private org, you can go back to Apex Classes and click the “Estimate your orgs code coverage” link.

Unfortunately, if you are using a free Developer org, you can only follow along with the Mavensmate deployment that David demonstrates.

    Hope that helps!
