I hate to say it, but Salesforce is gonna die sometime during your career. Certainly if you’re under 45.
No matter how great things are going now, or how much money you’re making, you need to plan for the inevitable. It’s something I’m paranoid about and I’ve very consciously made recent strategic career moves because of it.
In this video I walk you through the best and most likely long-term career options for admins, developers, and technical architects.
Stick around and I’ll tell you what I’ve been up to too. =)
David

are badges good to have on a reassume cause they show skills gained and trail head rankings?
You are spot on David. I can tell you from personal experience, as a Lotus Notes Developer, I moved over to Salesforce when the Lotus Notes industry died. I started down the management path and ended up playing politics too much and wasn’t adding much value.
I lucky to find a company that was transitioning from Lotus Notes to Salesforce and jumped at the chance to skill up as a developer on a new platform.
THIS is the truth someone need to say and no one better than DAVID said it. I completely agree and i always told people who ask me that they want to move to salesforce tech area. Don’t make it as your career path. Make it as an option and build your career on a core stack. If you know core tech then you can work on any technology and as far as technology, it will come and go.
Thanks for the insights.
Which non-Salesforce technology / product skills do you recommend for Technical architects ? – You mentioned AI, cloud and web-based technologies. Please provide some details so that we can prepare accordingly.

Thank you for your advice! As an admin, I do not want to be a consultant or manager. Any other ideas or suggestions on long-term paths? Thanks again!
