Salesforce coding lessons for the 99%

It has been a minute, I hope everyone reading this has found their own version of success.
It’s wild to me to post again here after what feels like so many years. SFDC99 was such a big part of my daily life, my every thought. I poured everything I had into this.
Life is so different for me now. I have three kids: 8, 5, and 1 years old. Life revolves around them, as so many of you may know. My perspectives and my priorities are all changed. My hair is a lot grayer.
I’ve had to reprioritize so many things in my life since. And after working so hard on this site for 10 years, I really needed to do something new. I hope you understand why I left.
A part of me went lost when I stopped helping people through SFDC99. Nothing else I’ve done since has really filled that void, and I’m worried nothing I ever do will. But I’ve always been really ambitious, and I hope one day I can do something fulfilling like this again. Maybe when the kids no longer want to hang out with me, ha ha ha. In the meantime it’s kids, pickleball, and, shoot, that might be it. In any case, if you’re worried, the years have always been good to me.
I know in my heart it’s time to move on from SFDC99. To give myself some closure, I just want to say “Goodbye” here. I’ll still be around in the industry, cheering for you all from the sidelines. Heck, I’ll probably even see you at Dreamforce this year. But it won’t quite be the same.
Thank you to everyone for all the kind wishes and personal notes over the years. I hope this site helped you somehow in your career, even if only a little bit. I’ll always cherish the memories.
David
Congrats on a great run David! Nothing can replace family time! I hope to stay in touch and see you around at various events like Dreamforce. I’m still blogging (as inspired by you). Now it’s on https://www.cloudonpurpose.com/blog instead of paulbfischer.com, but I’m still blogging about Einstein Activity Capture and many other features!
Thank you David. We’ve met 2018 during the dreamforce, I told you about how I got into Salesforce which was because of my wife. Then my friend who was your colleague Vinay Bamil. I was just browsing the internet and thought of you suddenly so I came here to see if you are still active and I faced with this farewell post. Since I met you in 2018, I have 3 kids as well, 5, 3, 1. Salesforce has changed my life. Vinay has a part in it. My wife obviously has a huge part in it. Your lessons and just the story of how you’ve changed your with Salesforce has a huge part in it. I am so glad you are putting the family first and I am sure you are already an amazing dad. I wish nothing but health, abundance of joy and longevity to you and your family. May our path cross again. Take care David.
My Salesforce journey began with your blog !! Thank you so much for being a virtual mentor. Your guidance will be missed. Enjoy your family time and hope to meet in person if our paths cross.
Hey David,
Thank you for everything you’ve shared through SFDC99—it’s had a lasting impact on so many, myself included. Your passion and dedication built something truly special.
Wishing you all the best in this new chapter of life with your family. Enjoy the moments, and I hope our paths cross again (maybe at Dreamforce!).
Take care,
Sam

Thank you David. While you made an impact here, your kids are far more important in the grand scheme of things, you’re doing a great thing by focusing on them while they are young. Also, costco is the best!
It’s been a wild ride for sure! Thank you for saying goodbye here – I just saw the post after telling a coworker about your site as they are preparing for PD I, and you got me through that. Grateful for your content, and hope to see you around out in the ecosystem David!
Oh David, Sorry to hear that. We will miss you so very much. All the best David. Enjoy family time and thank you for everything you did for the Salesforce community and for getting us ahead in life.
Thank you David from the bottom of my heart for all you do. It’s been a heck of a journey and I’m so grateful that I got see you grow and from that I found my career path from being a fundraising assistant to a Solution Architect. I’ll never forget hanging out with you at all the Dreamforce’s, Forcelandia, Tahoe Dreamin, and even YeurDreamin’ in Amsterdam when we were drinking wine in front the canals. I still have your SF99 shirt too that you gave me at Dreamforce. Hopefully someday our paths will cross and we’ll talk about all the greatness the “Aaaaapexxx academy” was.
Thank you David, you truly are one of the kindest and smartest ones out there.
