Hey there! Thanks for all the awesome info!!

I wanted to ask if you have any specific advice about getting hired as a REMOTE Salesforce admin. What’s the best way to go about this? Is it possible to get hired remotely as my first admin job after receiving my Admin and Advanced Admin certs?

Any info about remote/offshore work would be GREATLY appreciated, thanks so much!

I’d like to know the same thing. If you sign up for flexjobs.com you can see what they have. There are no Salesforce related jobs where I live (at least not advertised), so I haven’t committed to pursuing it in the first place. Remote might be the only way for me.

Hi David,

I am an ardent follower of your community. I started working in a smaller company as a Senior Software Engineer Salesforce Developer. I am a bit concerned about my career path going forward and I have around 9 yrs exp total as a Java Developer (5 yrs) and BA (4 yrs) combined. Its been around 4 months I started working as a Salesforce developer and I would like to grow professionally. I am not very strong in development and I always dreamt of getting into management (more non-technical). But due to visa situations and other factors I am doing development. If I would like to be in a Salesforce management role, what would you suggest? My basic intention is not getting into pure coding job going forward and at the same time grow up in the ladder in Salesforce. My question may be a bit confusing but I would like to know your inputs.

Thanks

I am ready to go through Salesforce admin side or Salesforce architect side provided its not pure code development.

You’re definitely going to need hands-on Salesforce experience to be a Salesforce manager. Especially because you don’t have management experience yet. Usually you can become a manager if you have awesome technical background, or, if you have awesome management background.

If I were you I’d probably learn the admin side of Salesforce then transition that into a manager. If you don’t want to code don’t force yourself.

Dear David Liu,

I am in a great confusion state. I am a SAP Certified CRM Functional Consultant with almost 5 years of experience. I have basic understanding of programming and I am planning to enter into SDFC. What are my chances to get a job in SFDC space with only SAP CRM functional experience and without having any SFDC experience ? BTW.. I have already completed half of SDFC admin course. How should I plan so that my career switch does not impact my current earning/Salary ?

Thanks,
SKG

Safe to assume your salary will take a hit. You’re going from expert to junior. But you have to prioritize long-term vs short-term. Make it easier by learning/volunteering while doing SAP work. Good luck!

Hi David,

Inspired by your blog i studied salesforce and passed ADM 201 certification. Without registering for the next exam i started my preparation for Dev 401. Now when i thought it is the time to take the dev 401 exam , i could not find it for registration . Instead there are 2 new developer certifications 1. Platform Developer I 2.Platform Developer II

These exams have different syllabus and require knowledge on Apex and visualforce coding . Lightning is also in syllabus.
I dont know what to do now :(

Can you pls help me how to prepare for these certifications?

Since then I have been doing self preparation and spending lot of time with my kid. I have cleared ADM 201 and Platform developer I certification.
Can you please help me in finding salesforce job where I can work from home. I dont have any prior salesforce experience , But i have 10 yrs of experience in software development tools and testing.

1) Considering above points is it a good move to salesforce with my experience as a tester?

2) If yes, which module to takeup and how long it takes for getting trained ?

3) how is the job market ? and what will be my role, is it a fresher, mid level?

4) And what is the future for SF?

5) which is best place to work with ample of SF opportunites like, US ?

Hi David,

I am a java professional with 3 years of work experience with a multinational company.I wish to start learning salesforce for brighter carrier opportunities. I need some information regarding the following points.

1. Which all certifications i need to do? What should be the expected time frame in months considering i am a working professional.
2. What will it take to secure a job in salesforce developer domain, considering the fact that i have no work experience related to salesforce. If i search a job with a company based on my newly gained salesforce knowledge,Will i be considered as a fresher again in the IT industry ?

Awaiting your reply.
