I earned $17,000 that year and was homeless for the next 18 months, couch hopping for most of that time… Today, I have multiplied my 2016 salary by 12… Thoroughly debt free, new business, great career. No wasted days.” |

0 to 20 certs in 2020 “I’d hit up Trailhead, do some studying for maybe a day or two and then not do it for a while and not really feel like I was making any progress. Never miss an opportunity because of certifications! “I never took any certifications because I honestly didn’t believe in them. Hi
I just finished my admin certification and would like to go the consultant direction . Should I do sales cloud consultant certification next or should I do advanced admin and then do consultant certification ?
Will I get hired as a consultant without advanced admin cert and no Salesforce experience?
Hello David, this probably going to be a huge message but I really had to post this (atleast for my accountability and) to tell you how much you can/& are inspiring people all over the world.
I was just “pushed” in to Salesforce because I had to change jobs soon or risk being laid off. Now, I am interested in this technology and want to learn from ground up.
Though I am from the Computer Science background, I have absolutely no ounce of coding ability (I am terrible with my basics and in general coding).
I survived 5 years with different Jobs and different roles (in the IT industry. I know.. I am still surprised I survived). Every time I think of doing things in the right way (learn/understand and do the job), I find some excuse or the other to not do it (and live in fear each day that I might loose my job). I have always been feeling low that I cannot compete with my peers/friends or even family in any aspect of my life.
The jobs I find in the market require a lot of technical acumen and understanding of the basic concepts. (As Atul said in his post/story [Aug 20, 2018]- “How do these guys do coding?” . That is my reaction every time some one opens their mouth).
I have finally sucked it up and decided today that I will learn (for myself) and understand what I am doing.
I want to find my “dream job” at CRM. I want to see myself at Salesforce and working for Salesforce.
Till today I have been ashamed to even say that its my dream job, lest people start laughing at me for even thinking I can land a job there. Even I have been laughing at myself for even thinking that its possible.
Reading through all the stories you have posted and seeing that I am not alone in this process has given me immense courage to start my journey.
Also, finding the right place to start learning and having a great teacher is something of a rarity.
You have given me all the tools. It is up to me as to how I use them.
Thank you so much David!
You are one true inspiration and I am pretty sure everyone agrees!
I’m cheering for you Aswini =) I believe you can do it.
Who knows, maybe one day you’ll be writing your success story and you’ll look back on this comment and smile =)
Go get em =)
David

Hi David,
Someone pointed me to this awesome site of yours. Thank you for inspiring so many. I have had a very long career break and I would really like to get started with the Salesforce Admin certification prep. I have looked at your certification guide. I am not sure which trails need to be done on Trailhead. Is there a guideline for that? Thank you, appreciate your time to help many of us.
Thank you SS! There are a lot of trails it’s kinda hard to know where to start now to be honest. Filter by beginner admin and do what sounds interesting to you! Make sure to focus on Lightning and reports =)

Good luck!
Hi..i was in IT from 2007 to 2010.But after 6 months post marriage lost my Job..was not fortunate enough to get a breakthrough in IT industry again…Time was difficult and big hurdle to get a job in the competitive environment. i had to struggle to support my family…I took up different Jobs in Call centre, e-commerce and IT Harware Sales with less salary but the jobs didn’t support me for long time. I quitted them after much research, finally decided to learn Salesforce course …i studied hard and passed by Dev 401 certification in 10th Sep 2015….I too gained lot of knowledge during my exam preparation from http://www.sfdc99.com website.i am on my learning path looking out for a decent Job in SFDC Skills. I am happy that i am in the right track…
I was a sales rep updating my opportunities and forecast data when I realized I liked working in Salesforce better than Sales. It was a true awakening for me..sure I loved my customers but I really LIKED the Salesforce work much more than product positioning. That’s when I said, I’m going to learn to administer and code. A year later I had 3 certifications and I am actively now learning to code…and loving it! David, your blog helped me countless times…and continues to help me along my journey.
I wish you best of luck on your journey Viv! =) Thank you!
Don’t know if its a success story. Its definitely not (yet!!).
You always inspire me David. I am following your website since this years starting.Got motivated to learn salesforce.
Felt really bad and demoted as well when you left sfdc99(as you are really an inspiation), however I continued.
Last week I passed ADM201 and today Dev401.
Would like to know what lies ahead after this (definitely triggers and APEX)?but what about Lightning and Visualforce.
Also I dont want to pursue more certifications as of now(definitely later) as I want to focus more towards development (learning APEX and maybe Lightning and Visual force) and not just for the certifications sake .
Anyways It was great to see you back and looking forward for your live sessions :) :)
